Steven Scherer
Senior Pastor

Steven Scherer has been the Senior Pastor of Central Baptist Church since September 2013. He received a business degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia (2005), Master of Divinity from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (2008), and is currently pursuing a Doctor of Ministry in Church Revitalization at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Steven is from Kennett, Missouri and had the privilege of pastoring Worthville Bapist Church in Worthville, Kentucky for five years before moving to Paris. Steven and his wife Katie were high school sweethearts and have been married since 2006. They have three children—Adeline, Norah, and Jack. He enjoys eating at Chipotle and Pie Five Pizza and perusing books and records at Barnes & Noble with his family.

In addition to the Bible, a few books that have shaped Steven’s life and ministry include Growing Up by Robby Gallaty, What is the Gospel? by Greg Gilbert, The Trellis and the Vine by Colin Marshall and Tony Payne, What’s So Amazing About Grace? by Philip Yancey, and The Holiness of God by R.C. Sproul.

Mickey Ballard
Associate Pastor of Music and Worship

Mickey Ballard has been the Associate Pastor of Music and Worship at Central Baptist Church since 2011.  During the 11 years before moving to Paris, Mickey had the privilege of serving at the First Baptist Church of Richmond, KY.  In addition to his many years of service in church music ministry, Mickey annually conducts the Kentucky Baptist Convention (KBC) All-State Youth Choir and Orchestra, and has conducted the KBC Men’s Chorale, and has served churches in Kentucky as consultant, clinician, or worship leader for revival services.

Prior to his calling to vocational ministry, Mickey taught voice and vocal jazz at Eastern Kentucky University for three years.  As a result, he continues to serve as a choral clinician and adjudicator throughout the region including recent engagements in Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, Tennessee, and Mississippi.  Mickey holds degrees from Louisiana Tech University (BFA-Vocal Performance), The University of Mississippi (MM-Vocal Performance; MM-Music Education), The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (MCM), and has completed additional graduate study in the areas of voice and conducting at the University of Kentucky.

Mickey married above himself when he married Sue Ellen whom he met while completing his time at Ole Miss.  They have one son, Jake, and two dogs, Sandy and Luna.

Jonathan Graves
Associate Pastor of Families and Youth

Jonathan Graves has been the Associate Pastor of Families and Youth at Central Baptist Church since June 2014. He received a degree in religion from Liberty University in 2014 and is pursuing his Master of Arts in Discipleship and Church Ministries at Liberty Baptist Seminary. Jonathan grew up in Paris and has been involved in youth ministry since 2000. Jonathan previously served as Youth Pastor at Gano Baptist Church, in Georgetown, KY.

Jonathan and his wife, Amy, were high school sweethearts and have been married since June 2002. They have a daughter, Bryna, and dog named Pezmo. Jonathan enjoys sports, listening to music, and socializing with family and friends.

A few books that have helped shape Jonathan’s ministry include Crazy Love by Francis Chan, Dirty God: Jesus in the Trenches by Johnnie Moore, and The Trellis and the Vine by Colin Marshall and Tony Payne.

Kaye Purcell
Church Secretary

Kaye Purcell lives in Paris and has been a member of Central Baptist Church since 2004. She was hired as Church Secretary in April 2013. Kaye is married to Billy Purcell and together they have two sons, Bradley (Sarah) & Wesley Purcell, as well as five grandchildren, all of whom live in Paris. In her spare time, Kaye enjoys spending time with her family, friends and church family.

Cathy Toadvine
Financial Secretary

Cathy Toadvine is a lifelong resident of Paris and has been a member of Central Baptist Church for over 20 years.  She was hired as the church’s part-time financial secretary in April 2013. She is currently employed by Sterling Ventures in Lexington.  Cathy is married to Jim Toadvine and has two sons, Josh and Justin Bobbitt.  She loves to sew, read, spend time with family and friends, and enjoys, like most Baptists, good food!

Kristi Brown
Nursery Director

Kristi Brown has been a member of Central Baptist Church since 2010 and became the nursery director in 2011. She is married to Gerald and they have one daughter, Rylee. In her spare time, Kristi enjoys exercising, shopping, and spending time with her family and friends.

Sue Ellen Ballard
Pianist

Sue Ellen Ballard serves as pianist for Central Baptist Church. She is married to Mickey Ballard, who serves as the Associate Pastor of Music and Worship. They have one son, Jake Ballard.

Sue Ellen presently serves as the Choral Director at Bourbon County Middle School in Paris, KY and the conductor of the Kentucky Baptist Women’s Chorale. She completed her doctorate in 2004 from the University of Kentucky in Choral Conducting. Sue Ellen enjoys serving the Lord through song with her husband and son, as well as quilting and traveling.
